Mr. James “Rusty” Beverly Stewart, age 80, of Lancaster passed away Friday, February 2, 2024, at Atrium Health-Pineville. He was born in Fairfield County, South Carolina, a son of the late William James Stewart and Beatrice Rose Martin Stewart.He is survived by his dedicated companion of 19 years, Dianne Mahaffee of Lancaster, stepson Alton Mahaffee (Tamra) of Lancaster, stepdaughter Carla Mahaffee of Wilmington, NC, grandsons Austin Mahaffee, Avery Mahaffee, Garrett Wilkins of Lancaster, and great-grandchildren Roman and Ava of Lancaster. Mr. Stewart also leaves behind a newfound son, Trace Walters (Heather), as well as special friends RF Lewis, Linda Justice, Jimmy Greer, and Ivan Plyler. Among his siblings, he is survived by William H. Stewart of Columbia, SC, and Dee Stewart McEuen (spouse of the late Wayne M. Stewart) of UT. Additionally, he is fondly remembered by nieces and nephews Stephanie Stewart Lemon of ID, Travis Stewart of UT, Rhett Stewart of NC, Kirk Stewart of UT, and Bruno Stewart of France.Mr. Stewart was predeceased by his sister, Leslie Stewart Babb, and his brother, Wayne M. Stewart.Mr. Stewart served our country in the US Coast Guard. He earned a master’s degree in business at the University of South Carolina. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Fort Lawn, SC. Mr. Stewart was a Shag instructor and was a member of the Lancaster and Charlotte shag clubs. Mr. Stewart was a free spirit who liked to camp, travel, and snow ski in Europe. Afterwards he spent many years caregiving for his beloved Mom and Dad. In his senior years, he loved landscaping and petting his favorite cat, Smarty.He will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched.
