Sarah Joan Stratford Powers

Mrs. Sarah Joan Stratford Powers, 93, widow of Henry C. Powers, of Lancaster passed away Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Levine and Dickson Hospice House. She was born December 22, 1930, in Fort Mitchell, Alabama, a daughter of the late Wylie Stratford and Naomi Sterling Stratford.Mrs. Powers loved her cat, Harrison, and enjoyed gardening and feeding the birds.A private burial for Mrs. Powers will be held at a later date.Mrs. Powers is survived by her four sons; Lance “Kip” Awbrey (Patricia) of Van Wyck, Howard Awbrey (Tina) of Frankfort, KY, James “Chick” Awbrey (Diane) of Rock Hill, and John Awbrey (Sonia) of Fairfax, VA, two daughters; Cherie Steele (Larry) of Van Wyck, and Celeste Counts of Rock Hill, sister; Jane Stuart of Jonesboro, GA, eleven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Spencer Awbrey, brother Sterling Stratford, sister Myrna Stenson, grandson, Lance Awbrey, and son-in-law, Bob Hawkins.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Levine and Dickson Hospice House- 8919 Park Road, Suite 1000, Charlotte, NC 28210 or VIA Health Service Hospice Group- 7845 Little Ave, Charlotte, NC 28226.Lancaster Funeral Home & Cremation Service is serving the family of Mrs. Powers.Read Obituary
